Growing momentum as second pharmacy unit in Nevada prepares to join The Pharmacy Guild/IAM, with plans for additional stores

Henderson, Nevada Pharmacy professionals at the Henderson, Nevada CVS have filed for a union election to join The Pharmacy Guild/IAM (TPG/IAM). This is the second pharmacy unit seeking to join the fight for patient care in Nevada with TPG/IAM. In April 2024, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians at CVS Omnicare Las Vegas won their union election, voting overwhelmingly to join the Guild. The Henderson store includes nine pharmacy technicians and one pharmacist.

“We as a profession exist at an intersection between some of the most complicated aspects of the healthcare system and the difficult life circumstances of the patients who walk through our doors daily. Our team is committed to offering our patients the most humane and personable care possible,” said Roberto Loredo, a pharmacy technician at the Henderson location. “However, when our team is consistently overworked and lacking the support and resources we desperately need, mistakes become more prevalent and our patients ultimately suffer. For a company that prides itself on prioritizing patient safety, these are the conditions that place people at risk. This is why we are organizing—to ensure the safety and well-being of our community and to provide our patients the attention they deserve.”

Like many pharmacy professionals seeking union representation, the Henderson pharmacy team is hoping to win strong contract protections, including safe staffing measures and improved patient care standards. An estimated 1.5 million Americans are harmed each year by medication errors — many linked to chronic understaffing and burnout. According to estimates from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), 7,000 to 9,000 Americans die annually due to preventable medication errors.

“By stepping forward, these pharmacists and technicians are helping to build a better and more sustainable future for the entire pharmacy profession,” said Shane Jerominski, national co-founder of The Pharmacy Guild. “Across the industry, pharmacy employees are facing the same overwhelming workloads, unsafe conditions, and lack of professional control that have plagued pharmacies for too long. We’re excited to see patients have a voice in pharmacy once again.”

The Pharmacy Guild/IAM is becoming one of the most powerful forces for change in the pharmacy profession. Across the country, pharmacy professionals in all types of practice settings are organizing to protect patients and demand a real voice in decisions that impact their work and care.
